Science Rocks competed in The Big Bang Southeast Regional Qualifier today, representing their school, Sutton High School, at the event. They were competing with the ScienceRocks website in the Junior division of the competition.
The day started early, with set-up and testing of the Mi-Fi, a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot acquired specially for the occasion so that the website could be shown live….. unfortunately the lack of any sort of signal meant that the Mi-Fi failed, but despite that, the girls were able to show the website Home Page and play their videos, which were luckily stored on the laptop. They were judged more than half-a-dozen times during the day, as well as demo-ing their site to numerous kids and adults passing by.
At the end of the day, the girls came away with 4 superb prizes:
– the Skyburst Prize for Innovation
– the Amey Award for Women in Science and Engineering
– Runner up in the NSEC Junior Maths/Science category
– Winners of the CGG South East Young Scientist of the Year
It was an amazing day!
The hard work starts now in preparing the site for the National Finals in March 2015. Thanks to all for following and supporting Science Rocks. If you have any thoughts on new videos we can do, or enhancements we can make to the website, please drop us an e-mail on firstname.lastname@example.org.
